MCs need to be passionate and care about what they do

The most successful Event Host MCs are abundantly passionate about their work, and it shows.

They’re exceptionally well-prepared, have an outstanding stage presence and are never short of work. The most experienced and knowledgeable MC in the world would be entirely forgettable if they lacked passion.

Passion is your motivation, enthusiasm, drive and devotion.

It’s the fuel that makes you bring your A-game to every single event, and everyone can tell. Passion is written all over your face, it’s in your posture and it thoroughly captivates your audience. Passion is why you invest in your outfit and equipment and reach out to a potential mentor.

It energizes you to continuously hone and refine your personal brand, and improve your skills with online courses. It impels you to spend an extra hour on your Run Sheet, and wake up an hour early to shine your shoes.

Being passionate about your Event Host MC career versus just standing up, making announcements and sitting down again (going through the motions) is equivalent to sipping sparkling champagne from a $1000 bottle versus downing cheap plonk from a box. Both do the job, but the champagne is way more enjoyable for everyone involved – and there’s no nasty hangover!

Enduring passion is the secret of every successful MC making thousands, because it’s these behaviors, driven by passion, that equal success.

When you’re the best you can be, you’ll be impeccably professional, command a (much) higher salary, utterly delight your clients, and score tons of recommendations and repeat bookings.

Passion and pride in your work never go unnoticed. Consider the people that you know who are extremely passionate about what they do. Their work is unwaveringly superb, right? It’s pretty difficult to do a bad job when you care so much about your work.

Tap into your passion to thrive.

The most successful MCs know they’ve found their calling. Their passion propels them to ever greater success. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. understood how unshakeable passion, pride, and determination ensure success:

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

You’ve got to find and feed your passion, and then channel it into your work.

Make a conscious decision to regularly remind yourself why you adore being an Event Host MC. It’s easy to love this job. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Continuously seek out challenges, develop your skills and refine your personal brand – never grow stale. Target dream clients by making a friendly, professional introduction.

Connect with others in the MC community to share ideas, solutions, and hilarious stories. Add to your routine and try something new. After your next awesome event, take a real or mental photograph of your client’s beaming smile. Close your eyes and recall the waves of applause after you told an especially inspiring story to an enthralled audience.

Remember that giddy feeling in your tummy as you drove home afterward. That’s why this is one of the best jobs in the world.

Wedding MCs, in particular, might feel grateful that they’re invited to share one of the most important days of their client’s life. And woah, it really is so much fun. Everyone at a wedding is dancing, eating, laughing and having the most amazing time – what’s not to love? (excuse the pun).

All the best. Always from Pete Miller
